Vân Bùi

Vân Bùi is Vietnamese documentary and experimental filmmaker currently living in Slough, England. As a teenager, she wanted to become a carpenter but forgot about it when it was time to apply for universities. As a result, she did a bachelor's degree in Film and Philosophy at Lancaster University and a master’s degree in Visual Anthropology at the University of Manchester.

Vân loves working with people, especially capturing and representing the subtleties of human emotions and relationships on film. But the lockdowns didn’t stop her from making films. She turned her room into a studio and, inspired by carpentry, has been creating film props using affordable materials. Previously using the camera mostly to observe the world, Vân’s recent works has been informed by her own thoughts and personal experience.
